Mara Rago
is an accomplished Pittsburgh-based photographer who specializes in black-and-white photography. Her studio work includes fine art photography, portrait commissions, and commercial accounts, and her photographs have been exhibited in numerous galleries and viewed internationally. She is currently the photographer for Pittsburgh’s OUT magazine. Recent projects include Feminine Frames 2002—The Art of Mountain Biking, the first calendar featuring nude photographs of professional female mountain bikers, created with Elaine Tierney, co-founder/former editor of Dirtrag magazine. Masculine Frames 2003, the calendar’s male counterpart, was also created last year. In July 2002, Mara exhibited photographs of adult film celebrity Janine Lindemulder, the product of a two-day shooting session in 2001 at Rago’s studio at Spinning Plate Artist Lofts, in the show “X” at Blue Ruin Gallery.
